It’s hard to believe it has been a year since our beloved Shyamdas left his body. This week’s podcast is a return to the tribute we did last year right after his death, and listening to the introduction took me right back to the disbelief & grief that rocked our kirtan community after he passed– it has been a year, and the impact of his loss can still drop us in our tracks. Take some time to remember Shyam with me dear hearts, and bless him for the laughter & gifts he brought us. Namaste.

“Jai Shri Krishna…What a lila! To my entire family as well as to my circle of satsang friends and teachers: it was an honor to have been a part of it. Know that the soul is eternal and plays onwards, always reaching for the Beloved.” —from the Last Will and Testament of Shyamdas.

A Tribute To Shyamdas

This was a tough one to produce. Shyamdas was a bright light in our kirtan community, showing us the way of the true Bhakti. Teacher, singer, friend, kirtan gangsta, he left this life last Friday night in a motorcycle accident just a few weeks shy of his 60th birthday. The Maha Mantra he led at Bhakti Fest’s closing ceremony this year changed many of us down to the cellular level — to say we will miss him is a vast understatement. I’ve made a very small attempt this week to show who he was through his music & teachings. He is with his beloved Krishna now, and I know he’ s singing. Namaste.
