I don’t know about you, but I’m a God-a-phobic. I was raised a strict Catholic, and in that worldview God isn’t someone you could ever think of as a friend. For years I described myself as a recovering Catholic, and swiftly turned and ran from any mention of God or Jesus. I still do this to a certain extent. But I get such a sense of peace whenever I listen to “God Is Real/Sita Ram”, the Krishna Das song in last week’s podcast. The resonance & shading of his voice, the chanting of the Tibetan monks in the background–it gives me chills. The line that gets me every time? “I have found a way to live in the Presence of the Lord”. It slays me–because personally I finally understand what that’s about. That’s what kirtan has given me . . . a way to live with Spirit constantly present in my life without the need of a formal church or religious philosophy. I do believe I’m a heretic, but I’m a joyful heretic. And I’ve found a God Who feels right to me. Enjoy the music. Namaste.
